How To Start a Local Branch

PPA’s Local Branches are the face of PPA in local communities. Local Branches have the same aims as PPA:

  • To meet the diverse needs of parents across Australia for information and support, from pre-conception through pregnancy and birth, and into early parenting and beyond.
  • To advocate for the improvement of services for expectant parents, new families and young children.
  • To deliver services aligned with our principles, which are responsive to the needs of parents from diverse backgrounds.

Local Branches provide a parents with access to a network of local parents for peer support and self-help. At the end of every PPA antenatal workshop or class, new parents are introduced to a representative of their local branch and informed about events and activities and invited to get involved.

Local Branches engage in fundraising activities to support PPA’s work with parents from conception to parenting, and to fund their own local activities.

Local Branches also identify needs within their local parent community and develop services to meet these needs, funded by their own fundraising activities.

All new Local Branches sign up to the PPA Branch Charter. The Charter provides the structure within which Branches are free to operate independently within their communities.

In order to establish a new Branch, you will need to bring 3 additional willing individuals on board you with. The 4 of you then form the Branch committee with the following roles:

  • President
  • Treasurer
  • Membership Officer
  • Parent Services Officer

PPA will support interested individuals to convene a public meeting in their local community in order to raise awareness of the Branch's formation and to build interest and membership.

If you are interested in starting a local PPA Branch, we would love to hear from you. You can get in touch via email or call us on (02) 9984 0000. We will work with you to make it happen for your community.
